Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how Dawam (“the App”) handles information when you use it on iOS or Android. Developer: bdseerden. Bundle ID: com.bdseerden.dawam.
Summary
Dawam is built local-first. Your profile, Quran reading logs, Hifdh progress, and most preferences are stored on your device. Dawam does not require an account and does not offer in-app purchases.
Some features optionally use device capabilities (location, notifications) or, for Coach when online, send limited conversation and reading context to OpenAI to generate replies.
Information we process
Data stored on your device
- Display name and language / appearance preferences
- Daily reading goals and reminder settings
- Quran reading logs (amounts, minutes, streak-related history)
- Hifdh (memorisation) progress and settings
- Cached Quran audio you download
- Cached location used for prayer-time calculations
- Coach chat shown in the session UI (not uploaded as an account history)
You can erase this local data with Settings → Reset all data.
Location
When you enable prayer-time reminders or refresh prayer times, Dawam may request location while using the App to calculate prayer times (Netherlands / Muslim World League method as implemented in the App). Location is used for prayer-time features and related reminders; it is not sold and is not required to use Quran reading features.
Notifications and Adhan audio
With your permission, Dawam schedules local notifications for reading reminders. When the App is open around prayer time, it may play Adhan audio on device according to your settings. These reminders are local; Dawam does not operate a user push-account system for them.
Apple widgets, Live Activity, and Apple Watch
On Apple platforms, prayer-related widgets, Live Activities, and Watch complications may receive prayer schedule data via an App Group shared container on your devices. These surfaces are Apple-only.
Coach and OpenAI (online mode)
- Offline: replies are generated on device from your local reading logs (no OpenAI call).
- Online: when configured for the build and after in-app consent, your Coach messages and relevant reading context from local logs are sent to OpenAI to generate a reply.
OpenAI processes that content under its own terms and privacy policy. If the online request fails or no key is configured, Coach falls back offline.
What we do not do
- No user accounts or cloud sync of reading history in this version
- No advertising SDKs for behavioural ads
- No sale of personal information
- No in-app purchases
Sharing
We share data with third parties only as needed to provide a feature you use: OpenAI for online Coach after consent; Apple / Google as required to distribute the App and deliver OS services.
Retention
Local data remains until you delete it (Reset all data), uninstall the App, or clear App storage. Online Coach content processed by OpenAI is subject to OpenAI’s retention practices. This version does not operate a Dawam cloud database of Coach history.
Children’s privacy
Dawam is not directed at children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your country).
Your choices
- Deny location or notification permissions
- Decline online Coach consent (offline Coach still works)
- Disable Adhan sound in Settings
- Reset all data or uninstall the App
Changes
We may update this policy as the App changes. The “Last updated” date will change when we do.
